Horse Retirement

At Forest Stables we understand that each horse has individual needs and requirements, especially in retirement. Therefore, we aim to maintain your horse's normal routine as far as possible.

Although we recommend as much turnout as possible for a healthy veteran, each horse has its own stable and can be brought in as much or as little as is required. Our horses are turned out in small herds with carefully chosen companions to avoid any bullying.

In addition to our retirement livery package below, we have a transport service available using our new Ifor Williams 510 horse box if required. This service costs 65p per mile - contact us for further details.

Our retirement livery package includes:

  • Stabling in our modern barn - see the Facilities page for more details.
  • Turnout in carefully managed paddocks ranging from six acre fields to smaller ‘starvation’ paddocks.
  • Bedding.
  • Hay or haylage.
  • Hard feed (not including any supplements)
  • Daily groom and regular rug changes.
  • Monthly ‘barefoot’ trim.
  • Six-monthly dental check and rasp.
  • Vaccinations for flu and tetanus.
  • Regular worming programme and annual worm count.
  • Monthly personal update by e-mail or post, including photos of your horse.

We can easily arrange light exercise including in-hand walking if required. All from as little as £50.00 per week.
